Unique Statue Proudly stands in Marina Beach



Marina the city's primary area for recreation, the entire stretch features numerous statues and monuments that have come up over the years along the beach promenade, called Kamarajar Salai. Most statues are of national or local legends while others have symbolic significance like the Triumph of Labour statue. One among a Uniques statue was Veeramamunivar who real name is Constanzo Beschi.

He came to India as a Christian Missionary. He was working as a 'Jesuit priest' in a small place called "Elakkurichi" near Ariyalur in Tamilnadu. He worked in another village called 'Kamanayakkanpatti'. He consturcted many churches called "Adaikala Madha Church" in Elakkurichi, and "Poondi Madha Church" in Poondi near Tiruchirappalli and the third church,"Periyanayagi Madha Church" in Konankuppam.


Fr.Beschi learned Tamil in detail and he became an expert in Tamil Grammar and Literature. Being a foreigner, he could write Tamil Grammar Books for both literary/prose and poetic Tamil because his deep involvement in Tamil.

Beschi translated "Thirukkural" from Tamil into Latin. This spread the culture of Tamils to Latin countries. Salute him for his tamil services. By thanking him the Tamil nadu Government decide to erect a statue in Marina beach.
